About Joey Banks
Joey Banks was born and raised in Austin, TX and has been working in Theatre for the past fifteen years as an actor, director, playwright and educator for students of all ages.
He received his Master of Fine Arts from Illinois State University with a focus in Classical Acting and Civic Engagement and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southwestern University with a focus in Acting and Musical Theatre. Joey has performed professionally with the California Theatre Center, TheatreWorks, Austin Playhouse, ZACH Theatre, Austin Shakespeare, and the Illinois Shakespeare Festival, as well as multiple regional and local theaters in the Austin, Chicago, and San Francisco areas.
His preferred areas of focus are Musical Theatre, Contemporary Realism, Shakespeare, and New Works projects with a goal of telling the stories of marginalized communities and little known histories.
Joey is a resident company member of the Austin Playhouse and Doctuh Mistuh Productions, as well as holding the role of the Artistic Director of Haymaker Players, a new works collective based out of Austin focused on telling original stories and community-based interview theatre.
Currently, he is teaching acting and directing at Abilene Christian University where he has been employed since 2022.
